Our Board of Directors is majority woman-led and made up of a diverse mix of people from all walks of life. We are a LGBTQ+ friendly, Transgender safe, BIPOC inclusive institution that strives to constantly and consistently implement change where and when needed. We pride ourselves on personal and institutional growth - something that is very necessary when fighting for change and growth in our neighborhoods. Education, economic impact, and community development are the pillars of our foundation: P.A.T.C.H. “Promoting Arts To Create Harmony” is our mantra. Harmony in art, harmony in music, and harmony in our community is how we contribute to the revitalization of Lorain, OH. With 10,000 sq. feet of space, we are located right on Broadway in Downtown Lorain’s Arts and Entertainment District. Creatives can take advantage of this burgeoning area by leasing affordable studio space, booking our spacious multipurpose area or stage for events. The cornerstone of the BRIAR are our extra-curricular programs for Lorain’s youth; Many school districts have cut funding to arts & music programs which is a fundamental educational need for every young person. The BRIAR serves our community with a variety of arts activities including, but not limited to: art classes for all ages, art shows, musical events, art studios for all creatives and rehearsal space for bands. Certainly, the most important aspect of our concept is our extracurricular programming which accommodates young people not fortunate enough to have access to these types of electives in school or at home, including classes in art, photography, culinary, music, and audio/video production. The BRIAR is the hub for artists and burgeoning creatives in downtown Lorain. We offer low-cost studio space starting at just $250pm, utilities included. Studio space options vary from x sq/ft to xx sq/ft, some with sweeping, sunny views of Broadway while some of our other options are more pared down and affordable but never compromising on quality. Amenities include a newly-built shared kitchen with modern appliances and quartz countertops, shared bathrooms, shared “slop sink” area for washing brushes etc, gig speed internet, winter heating, use of our vast multipurpose areas, option to have open studio nights… and more! We also offer a co-op program that allows artist residents to complete work at The BRIAR in exchange for up to 50% of rent per calendar month. We run workshops for educational institutions, social agencies and private groups. These vary and can consist of art for emotional regulation, crafting for fun and music practice for live events. Our workshops are run by trained professionals with experience in education. We can also arrange sessions for those with special learning and behavioral needs. We run our workshops in our space but we are also able to visit your location! We have two multi-use spaces available to you to book for your event, conference, workshop… whatever you can think of! Multi-purpose Room: A ~2,500 sq ft space with a projector, surround sound system and attached full kitchen. This space works best for film screenings, yoga classes, workshops etc. Thicket Theatre: A ~2000 sq ft space featuring a stage area, full-service stage equipment, dry bar (which can be stocked and manned for a fee), projector and a panoramic view of Broadway. This space works best for concerts, performances and private events. Green Room: When not being used as a lounge for performers, our green room is set up as a podcast studio.
